Image
In this digital age, tech is an important part of everyone’s daily lives, from a fortune 500 companies CEO and workers to a 2nd grader in public school, the need and usage of tech is inescapable. One of the biggest questions is how if at all does the usages of said tech change/ alter young developing minds. As we navigate the new frontier that is technology and its ever-advancing landscape, we must take accountability for how it shapes our lives and connections and confront the challenges it presents in education, privacy, and social dynamics. With this Op-ed I hope to be able to take a peek at into the double edges sword that is technology.  The rapid incorporation of technology into our daily lives has been found to have profound effects on the developing brains of young people. Although technology offers a variety of benefits, its negative impacts on the young brains are increasingly evident. Excessive screen exposure has been linked to a range of cognitive and emotional ...

American Media: The real-life Minstrel show

American Stereotyping Media:  A Real-Life Minstrel Show The Black man in America is the most undervalued, over policed, underestimated , highly incarcerated induvial there ever was and the media has played a pivotal role in getting all types of people, including those of color to believe that they deserve it. From the moment that pen could be put to paper to dehumanize and devalue a black person it was done and it was disproportionately aimed at the black man. Since the age of slavery, those in charge knew that in order to gain subjection of a group of individuals they would need to breakdown and dominate the strongest amongst those people and since Europeans viewed Men as the leaders of a society (not always the case in African and many other cultures) they made sure that they put black men on display when highlighting what they perceived as weakness. Minstrel shows were American theater developed in the 1900’s, where white people would use Burnt cork or shoe polish to pai...

Politics: An American Telenovela

Image
Ugh, why do politics make me feel gross? Why must they be so uncomfortable? Growing up I had little to no interest in learning political views of others. Not because I didn't view other people's opinions as important but because those individuals who seemed well versed in politics always came across as dry, boring know it all’s with little to no personality. I guess I didn’t realize how much emotion and human fallacy was woven into the GAME of politics, honestly, it's like watching a telenovela at times. Political Chess   Watching grown adults, who on paper are very well educated, go on national television and or social media and regurgitate false, unresearched, disproven, bias information is WILD! However, this Phenomenon is unfortunately NOT new and occurs on almost every level of political discourse. Although on some level it can all be extremely entertaining and meme worthy, its mainly just disheart...

Empowering Voices: The Role of Citizen Participation in Public Policy Creation

Image
How Involved should we be in public policy making? Should we only go as far as voting for and official and letting them handle the rest?   For me is feel s like a debate that first starts out by asking , how much power and or influence should a person or group of people have. As time moves forward and society continues to evolve the balance of power is ever shifting and makes it very clear that without public interaction, we may find ourselves on the end of less power over the decisions that are made for us . Not only how much power is being held but who decides who holds said power and how they are allowed to wield it.   The problem (not really) is that our societ y is increasingly diverse . W ith all of the different cultural backgrounds , belief system s and Flat world theory's , it's difficult to see how it would be efficient to have every topi c of contention voted on b y each member of society before we were able to move forward with change. Alot of...
